I’m far too young to remember but apparently Bob Dylan once said something about times changing. Forty years on, it’s still as relevant as ever. Never ones to stand still we needed to rebrand LeftMedia as we refocus our business to better serve small and medium sized businesses (SMEs)
One thing we’re always talking about is keeping your brand fresh, so our first change to rebrand LeftMedia was a brand new logo. Our previous one served us well as we started but we wanted something fresher and more versatile. We got Brad working on this. The newest member of the team, having graduated in Graphic Design last year, his contemporary take on design was perfect for this task.
The new logo consists of clean simple type and an icon made up of two identical triangles. Used as arrows these triangles show that we never stand still and with a couple of turns they become a stylised LM. We thought that was kinda clever.
We’d been sitting on our exciting new look for a little while, as we needed to address something else – our website. As with the logo, it had served us well and did what it needed to do, but we felt it was overly complex and feedback told us it was sometimes difficult to find everything that visitors needed to. So rather than make a few tweaks here and there and add the new logo and colours, we decided to start again from scratch.
As well as a much improved look, the website has many under the bonnet improvements, not least of which was a simplification of its structure, making it easy for both site visitors and search engines to quickly find the content they need. This is a crucial consideration when we build websites that helps user experience, site speed and search engine friendliness.
So a new logo, look and website were pretty major changes then? Yes, but we didn’t stop there. Much as we loved our central Manchester studio we felt that being shut away in our own little space really didn’t suit the agile business that we strive to be. While we were thinking about this, Mitchel, our MD and founder, was accepted onto the Entrepreneurial Spark programme, which resulted in us being offered use of their amazing shared workspace, ‘The Hatchery.’ So that’s where we are now, surrounded by driven and talented businesses, some of whom we’ve already started working with.
